Default When and what to eat before Tang Soo Do?

I'm just starting Tang Soo Do and want to eat appropriately so I have energy to make it through the workout. I don't want to throw up in class either.

I had my first trial class on Tuesday night. I ate a huge meal (like 1000 calories) with carbohydrates four hours before the class. I did fine. My next class is Saturday as 12:45. Eek. That's a little different because I won't have been fueling myself all day. Should I carbo-load the night before? What should I have for breakfast and when???? Thanks for the help.
Hey Bluto,
Thanks for the detailed answer. I'm a lady but the 1,000 calorie meal was my first meal of the day. I was doing the Warrior Diet which I don't think I can maintain while doing Karate (not enough total calories). Back to a clean diet I guess... I don't drink so I don't have to worry about the hangover and low-blood sugar issues caused by that. I just want to be able to do strenuous exercise without passing out lack of energy or low-blood sugar.
Low-carb doesn't work either nor does eating minimeals. Eating multiple times a day causes my blood sugar to rise and plummet to fast. I'll figure it out...eventually.
