Default A question about age and karate...?

Hey everyone, I have noticed that in tournaments, the girls in the younger divisions (13-17) are more skilled in general than the women and that there are more competitors. Why do you think this is?

It is simple really. The young mind is more capable in thinking in a dangerous situation. There minds are like sponges before a fight they remember the tactics more clearly that there teacher taught them. With the younger generation they are more social so they have friends to help them practice. Along with that the older generation has jobs and the younger does not there fore they have more time to practice. I hope I answered your question.

It's socially acceptable for girls to be aggressive and athletic and it is much less so for women.

Plus people that start such things at a younger age do better, and the females you see competing probably didn't start as children. When women take such a sport it is probably more motivated by fear of being attacked while walking to their car or something. Where as the girls do it for the sport (and are probably less likely to be the timid type).
